A Special Place for Children
Almaden Country School celebrates childhood and learning. Children are naturally curious and eagerly explore the world around them. Almaden Country School creates an environment that engages this curiosity and allows children to learn in ways that appeal to them.

As ACS Founder Nan Hunter often says, “Unlock a child’s heart, and the mind will follow.” We strive to build relationships with students and parents that allow children to take the risks necessary to learn. When children feel safe, cared for, and respected for their gifts and talents, they work hard, think creatively, and embrace challenges with confidence.

Our teaching philosophy is based on the knowledge that each child has unique capabilities and talents. The school’s goal is to identify those strengths and talents and use them to help each student develop extensive factual knowledge, useful achievement skills, and a strong moral character. Our students consistently test far above their grade-level standards, but that is just the start of their accomplishments. They also learn how to help others, create and innovate, express their individuality, and have fun learning.

Experienced, dedicated teachers provide a stimulating program that includes a broad range of enrichment activities. Programs include traditional academic studies in mathematics, science, social studies and history, and language arts and literature. Students also enjoy a rich fine-arts curriculum that includes foreign languages, visual arts, drama, and music. The school library connects learning across grade levels and curricular areas and becomes a place where new knowledge and understanding are created. Computer aided instruction is incorporated where appropriate. We strive for no more than 20 children per class and pay special attention to meeting the needs of each child individually. Parents also are a vital part of an Almaden Country School education, and are encouraged to be fully involved in their children’s school activities.
